🗓️ Weekly Rundown 🗓️

  • Flew down to Charleston via Breeze - they are a fire budget airline - will fly again

  • Went up to Fort Jackson for next Johnson's graduation - saw him + his fam and an Army tap out

  • A Sergeant wanted to share a photo for Kyle since he couldn't have his phone - my witty phone name backfired when a formal, uniformed Sergeant goes "Are you 'Yell Penis for the Password'?" And I had to go "yep, but I won't make you yell penis, the code is…"

  • It's much funnier when you're in an airport and turn on your hotspot and hear someone start yelling penis

  • Bro was carrying the flags since he got the top PT score in the class of 1100+

  • Let's see if Carl can get KJ2K down here

  • Downtown Charleston with Faith, seeing its pretty aesthetic coffee shops, Faith's favorite lunch spot

  • I was told to make sure it's cute outfit day, and there is an unspoken dress code, and if I'm in anything less than the peak of my game I will be outfit mogged

  • Dog parade + dog sitting

  • Church with the Johnsons then dinner with the Johnsons - again I got burned by my phone's name being "Yell Penis for the Password"

  • They wanted to see travel photos via screen share on the TV, and "Yell Penis for the Password has connected" was a great ice breaker

  • Call with Rotuno

  • Wearing my watch while I sleep is fun - it calls me a well-trained athlete: it gives me warnings saying your heart rate is getting too low and it shouldn't be this low unless you're a well-conditioned endurance athlete

  • Heart rate drops to 38-41ish bpm sleeping

  • Playing pool with the Hertwings

  • Hung out with Thor all day - fun at Top Golf and we played the Angry Birds game -it was clearly rigged - I'd get full points and the tower taken downwith out hitting a ball

  • Dinner - turns out bro is from Toledo/Lancaster, Ohio, and Thor makes good margaritas

  • Running is so hard here - my pace drops drastically and the sun and humidity are a bad combo

  • KJ2K made it down

  • WBOTW: KJ2K - graduated basic and seeing him again is sweet

🧠Something New I Learned🧠

  • I learned a lot about the army and that it would be my nightmare with all the rules - despite the cool stuff like their camps or benefits

  • Charleston is so white - I haven't been somewhere in a while where everywhere I looked was just white people - last place was Athens

  • Charleston culture - they verbally say hi to everyone - back where I'm from, we drop a wave, but they hit the verbal hi, and everyone is so polite, well dressed/aesthetically pleasing in Charleston, but their humidity sucks

  • Empires were measured in land, but now that growing food isn't the biggest, most important thing, it's no longer the measurement of an empire. It's now the influence they have, and economic influence seems the new best metric. Also look at the old English and French empires, and now look at England and France now - they're fading empires on their last leg compared to before

  • Army training is very interesting to me - it's like a big frat and has a brainwashing feel to it. I think studying the psychology they use to reengineer your identity when you get there is fascinating. Also ironic - it seems like they give up their freedom entirely when they're in there

  • The full picture is important - one side thinks one thing, the other thinks another, but it's ineffective unless both sides know what the other is thinking to find the actual shortfall and weak point. Just seeing or asking for the other point of view seems important
