Spain is lit but service is not. My phone doesn’t receive any texts or calls, so to reach me use WiFi-based stuff like email, Snapchat, WhatsApp, or Instagram. Found a computer at a hostel so that was a huge W, but it’s probably from 2015 but its much better than making this on the phone. Expect spelling errors, the computer is set to spainsh so every word has a red line saying it is miss spelled.
🗓️ Weekly Rundown 🗓️
Unpopular opinion, airports are my happy place. I will defend that if needed.
Great travels, got to Barcelona safe with a connecting flight in London. Why tf are there so many Indians there!? Every airport worker was Indian. I’m sure it’s a biased sample but where are the white people?¡
Made friends on the planes, my favorite being Vincent from Hong Kong. He is in IB and very interesting. Had fun hearing about Hong Kong and he expressed lots of interest in New York City and the commonness of guns.
Barcelona airport was full of blunders, starting with struggling to find my Blacks bag because we couldn’t find baggage claim conveyor. Long story short, Vincent helped us out and London isn’t London in Spanish #FunFactsItsLondres. Next was trying to board a train at a bus stop.
After getting in the subway we were smooth sailing. We were walking out of the metro to our 1st stop and BOOM, the Sagrada Familia. It was sick, like as sick as seeing massive mountains sick. #wow
New steps in a day record: 51,000
Fun fact: Barcelona hates tourists. Plenty of graffiti and stickers say so.
My Spanish is not functional, Señorita Cash let me down, I am comically bad at listening to it. I can get through the grocery store to buy our meal of choice: fresh bread and cheese. €4.50 for 2000 calories and it filles 2 people. This makes me want to learn spanish so I can talk to locals in their langue. Maybe learn it then backpack South America and talk to them, that would be baller.
Time moves slower, assuming it’s because everything is new and different and harder to figure out.
Been very surprised how nice the hostels are despite them being 20 euro a night.
City has super cool buildings, all look sick, and they go all out for churches and kings.
Spain is very gay, especially Madrid, there are dudes kissing everywhere.
Favorite game: find Americans. It’s very easy. If you see a metal water bottle, American brands, running shoes, and white skin looking clueless, yup, American.
Fun meeting Americans and talking to them. Not fun part is when we get rejected from a casino for being American. I now know what racism feels like, and it feels bad. I was going to pay for the whole trip with blackjack and putting it on black.
So far we have eaten minimal Spanish food, surviving on bread and cheese to keep costs down and trying something new like their lemon Fanta or a spanish desert each meal. Best thing so far is their oranges. They are so gas and just growing on trees lining the street.
Seen many cool cities and road many trains, buses, metros, high-speed trains going 300 km/hr (aka 180 mph in freedom units).
Went to a cave and watched a flamenco (gypsies stomping very aggressively with some flow (dancing) and clapping impressively loud).
Read El drac, la princesa, sant Jordi i la rosa
I lost in chess to Bart from the Netherlands. He is goated in chess. I held my own but I made a few aggressive plays to have a strong attack at the start that he defended too well, resulting in him being up a bishop. It ended up with him winning the game when it was down to 3 pawns and a king each but his extra bishop was too much and I took the L.
Austrians are very funny, might be my new favorite ethnicity replacing Asians.
Saw a 12 year old kid from Romania playing with a kendama. We played kendamas in the Alhambra fortress together was lit af. He was much better than me.

High:
Talking to new people and everyone speaks English. Everyone. “Where are you from?” is a cheat code. Craziest person was a French chick I met who was kicked off a boat she was hichhiking on. A 4 day trip took 31 days before she was kicked off and never completed it. Ship kept breaking and orcas tried to sink the boat and nearly did. Found out she took this venture to avoid a plane because she hates global warming and the emissions from planes.
Low:
Not speaking Spanish, feels bad being in their country but they are speaking my language. Or an American child was screaming 6 7 so I looked at him, said it back, and did the hands, and he yelled “GOOD BOY” as loud as he could and I lost hecka aura.
Buffalo:
Ate a random unripe mystery olive off a tree on the street. It sucked, was so bitter. Top 5 worst things I’ve put in my mouth.
🎵 Song of the Week 🎵
Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Have not been listening to much music as there isn’t much time, and when I’m on long trains I sleep. Have showed American classics like Free Bird and WAP so I guess they are the songs of the week. Mary Jane’s Last Dance was very good too this week.
Till next time,
VB
